Phoenix (April 17) – Arizona Republican Party Communications Director Torunn Sinclair released the following statement on Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema accepting more than $10,000 in donations, and the Arizona Democratic Party accepting more than $40,000 from the founders of Backpage.com , a website under investigation for knowingly allowing ads prostituting women and children.
“Arizonans shouldn’t have to ask their elected officials to refuse donations from those aiding and abetting sex traffickers,” said Arizona Republican Party Communications Director Torunn Sinclair. “Congresswoman Sinema only donated the money after March 31 of this year, months after Backpage.com had been in the news for trafficking. She was given this money both in 2013 and 2016. The allegations against this website aren’t new, and the human trafficking linked to the website is something Senator and Mrs. McCain have been outspoken about for a long time. There is no way the Congresswoman didn’t know where this money came from.
Even worse, the Arizona Democratic Party has already used the $40,000 they were given, and it is absolutely sickening that they took and used donations from individuals who operate a website that knowingly exploits women and children. Where is their moral compass? It is beyond shameful that they took this money and used it for their own political gain. I hope next time they’re in this position they take a minute to think about what this money represents — the millions of women and children across the globe that are forced into the $150 billion industry that funds human trafficking.”
